So like many of you out there, I strive to live a healthy life. I try to get my butt to the gym at least three times a week, and eat healthy as often as possible. Which brings me to today's dilemma - I am ALWAYS hungry! I feel like I am eating all day, every day. I love food, and I am seriously eating all the time. So many issues contribute to this! Any suggestions on how to keep me in control would be welcome!
Lack of Routine:
It is really hard to eat healthy all the time, especially while I'm in school. Not being in a regular routine really throws off my "healthy" diet. First of all, I HATE making lunches every night! It gets so boring, and I can only eat the same thing so many days in a row. It sucks because many of the healthy lunches I eat at home are just not feasible to make the night before and bring to school...way too much work involved. If any of you have any ideas for healthy but delicious lunch options, it would be greatly appreciated! Also, it is hard to eat your home made lunch when there are a million different options staring at you!
Eating Out: It is hard because it seems that many social outings and events with friends involve eating out. This is great, because like I said, I love eating, but it also kind of sucks, because it is really hard to eat healthy when you are out at a restaurant - who wants to eat salad at a restaurant when there are so many other delicious options? Even when I plan on eating a homemade lunch, friends are always going out to eat, and I clearly don't have the willpower to say no! Going out for wings is pretty much a weekly event for me. I LOVE wings...but they are so bad for you! And you can't have wings without a pitcher of beer...and don't get me started on how much I love beer! I can't stop eating out. I was so sad the other day when I got my Amex and Mastercard bills and 90% of the purchases were from eating out! I think it is a lose-lose situation.
Boyfriend: I was reading this article in Cosmo the other day and it was called "What Love Does to Your Diet", and it is so true! My boyfriend and I are always eating together, whether it is at home, eating out, or just snacking while watching a movie or something like that. It is not fair! He is 6'5 and 195 lbs, and can eat like a horse. Unfortunately...I too can eat like a horse, and often eat the same amount as him...oopsie. I wish I was one of those girls with a small appetite...but I am not. He even told me once that it is not normal for me to eat the same amount as him...that our sizes need different caloric intakes. But it is his fault...when he eats, I eat! I can't say no!! And he has two brothers who are even larger than him, so when I eat at his house, his mom is not concerned with making healthy meals, and more concerned with having enough food to feed 3 behemoth boys...a.k.a. not always the best foods for me to be eating, but of course, I always do...
Clearly all of these issues boil down to one major issue...LACK OF WILLPOWER! I can't say no to food, when it is just soo good.
A friend of mine just sent me a website: http://caloriecount.about.com/
You can search for many of the foods you eat, and it tells you how many calories are in that particular food, as well as how many your body needs on a daily basis, dependent on your height and weight, etc. You would think that it would help...but it actually depresses me! Do you have any idea how many calories are in chicken wings? (You don't even want to know). The good news is that most days I am not consuming as many calories as I think I am, which is why I am not a whale...(yet).
Help!
