Twitter

Does anybody use Twitter??

I have heard from many sources that Twitter is is the new go-to hotspot for social media and networking, two elements that are crucial to the Communications Biz. I have been speaking with some industry professionals regarding the internships that we need to complete by the end of this semester, and these professionals are all using Twitter, not only personally, but professionally. So, under the impression that I need to become part of the Twitter community as a way to stay on the cutting edge of our industry, I joined.

Here's the thing. I don't get it.

It seems to me that Twitter consists of a bunch of people updating their status at any given time. Do I really care what everyone is doing at any given moment in their lives? Not exactly. And plus, Facebook has a convenient status updater tool which suffices just fine, thank you. Maybe I am just a Facebook devotee, but I don't see Twitter offering anything that Facebook doesn't. Perhaps it is because I don't have many "followers" on Twitter yet (because I know very few individuals who are using it) but it seems to be very lonely at this time, if you will. Maybe if some of you get Twitter, and add me (my name is aleachman) I will see the point of it, but right now, it just seems like a bunch of nonsense to me!

A friend of mine sent me a convenient link that explains the basics of Twitter: http://www.davidrisley.com/reports/twittermanual.pdf

Check it out, and hopefully you understand it better than I! Or better yet, join it, add me, and we can figure it out together!
